Bullets & Bricklayers

I must say that I am encouraged by the political climate we are in right now. Some people love the direction the country is moving while others believe the nation is being taken over by the government, and now, some are taking action on their beliefs. Yesterday, as reported, several Democratic legislators’ offices had bricks thrown through their windows. Today, the GOP’s second-in-command, Eric Cantor, had a bullet shot through his office window in Richmond, VA.

While I am strictly against advocating violence, I am glad people are getting there asses off their couch and participating in the political process, of which protest is included.

Who You Calling A Baby Killer?!?

Look, I understand that there is supposed to be a certain decorum when it comes to Congressional hearings and such, but I like to see passion when it comes to our lawmakers. Texas Congressman Neaugebauer yelled “it’s a baby killer” in response to Bart Stupak’s cowardly reversal on Obamacare. This has cause media outrage and concern. While it may have been out of order, this isn’t that big of a deal. In other countries, when things get ugly, melees break out.

I watch CSPAN all the time and last night’s events were the most entertaining hearings I have ever watched. People would watch more CSPAN and be more informed if there

Oh Harry, Oh Harry…

-my commentary below

Washington (CNN) — Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid apologized Saturday for making racially insensitive remarks about Barack Obama during the presidential campaign.

Journalists Mark Halperin and John Heilemann reported the remarks in their new book, “Game Change,” which is scheduled to be in bookstores Tuesday.

The authors quote Reid as saying privately that Obama, as a black candidate, could be successful thanks, in part, to his “light-skinned” appearance and speaking patterns “with no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one.”

“He [Reid] was wowed by Obama’s oratorical gifts and believed that the country was ready to embrace a black presidential candidate, especially one such as Obama — a ‘light-skinned’ African American ‘with no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one,’ ” Halperin and Heilemann say.

“Reid was convinced, in fact, that Obama’s race would help him more than hurt him in a bid for the Democratic nomination,” they write.

In a statement to CNN, Reid said, “I deeply regret using such a poor choice of words.”

“I sincerely apologize for offending any and all Americans, especially African Americans for my improper comments.

Sidenote: While many may have found Senator Reid’s comments inflammatory, I felt he was just being honest.  He was right.  Obama was just “white” enough to pass through the filter.  It is quite interesting, however, how words don’t seem as racist when they come from a Democrat. :) BTW, what the hell is a “negro dialect?”  Who even uses the word “negro” anymore?  That’s like an old-school plantation kinda word; like “colored.”  No one uses that these days.  Maybe he should have used “ghetto” or “gangsta.”  “Partners in an Ebonics-free America!”  Anyways, calm down people.  Harry Reid is not a racist.  He’s just old and out of touch.  He grew up outside of Las Vegas.  Maybe the bright lights are impairing his choice of words.
