National Day of Unplugging
March 20 is National Day of Unplugging. It is a time to disconnect from technology, connect with family, and get away from the constant buzz of the blackberry or iPhone. Usually, it begins at sundown tonight, but since I forgot about it, I will begin at midnight. I’m pretty sure I can last 24 hours without technology, but I’ve never had to, so we’ll see.
Here’s a NYT article about the event: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/03/18/fashion/18sabbath.html
I’ll see you on the flip side.

Happy Martin Luth…um, Winnie-the-Pooh Day!!
Albeit 3 days after MLK’s birthday, today we observe Martin Luther King Jr. Day (which from here on out I will refer to as MLKJDizzy). The work done by Dr. King is vast and innumerable. His calm yet stalwart leadership paved the wave for various civil rights legislation including the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
While genuinely appreciative of his service and leadership during in his short life, there is another legend that shares the same day as MLKJDizzy.
The story begins in 1926, the year Pooh Bear was born (later renamed Winnie after a Canadian Black bear from Winnipeg who was residing in a London Zoo)
Look, I know what you’re thinking. Winnie-the-Pooh Day and MLKJDizzy don’t belong in the same breath. Dr. King’s work was sooooo much more important than a stupid little bear. YOU BITE YOUR TONGUE! POOH IS A SAINT!!! I apologize. Pooh has a special place in my heart.
Pooh Bear continues to an inspiration to millions of kids. With a list of quotes that rival an ancient philosopher, Pooh legacy will perpetuate throughout future generations.
Can I honestly say that Winnie-the-Pooh’s contributions are more important than the work of MLK Jr? Probably not, but I can say it’s worth a coin flip! :)
