Return of the Beast.

Tiger WoodsThe mere inkling or rumor of a possible return to golf for Tiger Woods this month is enough to throw the golf world into pandemonium.  Yesterday, an Australian newspaper reported that the beleaguered golfer was “poised to make a shock return to competitive golf” in less than two weeks at the Accenture Match Play Championship in Arizona.

Such a buzz has gotten sports writers in a stir, theorizing on the best point of reentry for the world’s top-ranked golfer.  Some say he is coming back too soon.  Others think he should wait until the Masters to return.  Some prescribe an Oprah appearance as the best medicine.

I don’t need Tiger to open to public; his closed-off nature adds to the mystery and the mystique that is Tiger Woods.  I just want to see him golf.  His marital issues and family woes are his problem, not ours.  I want to see Woods strolling down the 11th fairway at Augusta National into Amen Corner, or hopping the pond at Sawgrass 17.  I want to see him avoid pot bunkers at the Old Course at St. Andrews and cross the Swilcan Burn atop the bridge on 18.

2010 is poised to be an awesome year for the PGA tour:

  • Masters: Augusta National
  • US Open: Pebble Beach
  • The Open Championship: Old Course at St. Andrews
  • The PGA Championship: Whistling Straits
  • The Players Championship: TPC at Sawgrass

Golf needs Tiger to come back this year.  Golf needs Tiger and Phil battling it out all season.  Golf needs Tiger to choke again to Y.E. Yang (it was entertaining).  Tiger, if you’re listening, my birthday is February 17, the same day as the Accenture Match Play Championship.  Do it for the kids! :)

sidenote: There has been expressed concern over Tiger’s ability to play effective amidst this looming scandal.  Nonsense.  When Tiger got married, they said it would affect his game.  It didn’t.  They said when his father died it would be detrimental to his success of the course.  Didn’t happen.  The said the same when he had children, went through 3 knee operations, and are now saying it now.  Tiger will be just fine.
